The Green Guardian

On the occasion of the completion of my studies at Nuova Accademia delle Belle Arti di Milano, I chose to collaborate with two classmates as my thesis project, with the goal of producing a short film entirely in CGI (Computer Generated Imagery), using Unreal Engine 5 as the rendering engine.

The short film is titled The Green Guardian and tells the story of a world in which a solitary robot, who has lived in a bunker since its creation, has always been dedicated to collecting and preserving seeds of rare and exotic plants. However, one of these seeds seems impossible to find.

Given the collaborative nature of the project, our first priority was to assign roles to each of us in order to divide the work, establish a clear structure, and follow an efficient pipeline. Each of us aimed to take on roles that reflect our future professional careers.

My role was Technical Artist, 3D Artist, and FX Artist.

My colleagues took on the following roles: https://www.artstation.com/martinagarcea handled animation and rigging (creating the “skeleton” of the protagonist/assets and animating every movement); https://www.artstation.com/alicenegri8 served as Art Director (artistic and directorial decisions), Texture Artist (creating the textures and materials later applied to the 3D objects), and Lighter (managing scene lighting and cameras).

All of these roles are fundamental; therefore, the thesis outcome is a synthesis of these artistic expressions and of how each focuses on different aspects of the technical and creative process, highlighting how interdependent these roles are.
